My Pitch

Image
Pitch #1: A teen slowly spirals into a depressive state while trying to hide it from everyone in her life. I would be very interested in making this film for a variety of reasons. I know many people, including myself that struggle with mental health issues. I think this film would be able to raise awareness about mental health, specifically with depression and the warning signs of a depressive state. I believe people around the same age group or people who are experiencing the same issues will be able to relate to the film, and may be more inclined to get help. Additionally, I believe the film will be able to help people realize that they are in a depressive state or realize what specific mental issues they may be dealing with. Pitch #2: A girl falls in love with her best friend only to realize that her best friend is straight.  This is also another idea I would be very intrigued in making. Today’s media has more and more LGBTQ+ representation. The boom in representation is so bene...

Intro Blog

Hello, my name is Megumi. I am a high school student, currently taking an AICE Media Studies class. Since this is my first year, I am taking AS level. I decided to take this class because of my interest in film and the production of films. I’ve always been interested in photography, hence my interest in film. As I’ve grown older, I’ve watched more and more movies and TV shows and my love for film has grown even more. I loved everything from interviews with the actors to the behind the scenes to the writers of these films revealing their inspiration. I had always been enamored by the polished, refined, effortless look that a film had at the end of the entire filming and production process. Films full of raw, powerful emotions like Beautiful Boy and Whiplash have always left me wondering: how does this all happen?  As I’ve learned in this class, the filming and production process is one that is both difficult but rewarding. It requires a lot of effort and time, as well as dedi...

Group Blog

For the final task, I decided to work alone. I have a few reasons for doing so, one of them being that  I enjoy working alone. Working alone rather than in a group has its benefits and downsides. For me, its benefits include being able to ensure that work gets done and that I am on schedule. Because I would be working alone, it is up to me to get virtually everything done in a timely manner. Although this does seem like a huge burden to put on myself, it does the opposite. It forces me to be efficient with my time, as well as staying organized and on top of my work and deadlines. Working with other people can be hectic and group members schedules may not always align. Schedules not aligning occurred quite often during previous projects. Unaligned schedules would make everything from filming to editing to researching much more difficult. Another downside to working with people is the possibility that a group member is not doing their fair share. This could resul...

"Glitter" by Tyler the Creator, the Music Video

The music video is finally completed and I am happy with the results of it. Celine and I have done a lot for this assignment. By looking back on the video, there could have been more shots and angles. I saw some things I could've also improved on. For example, more stable surfaces to put filming equipment on so that the video seems to be less shaky. Since this was a larger project, I did expect that there would be some slight difficulties. However, I am satisfied with the results, and I am happy with what Celine and I accomplished. This music video gave me a better idea of how professional music videos are made and the process that accompanies them. It enabled me to discover new strengths and weaknesses to be aware of in the future. This assignment was extremely enjoyable, especially when working with someone hard working.

Layering the music correctly

Continuing editing the music video, there were a few complications as expected. One of these complications was the sound. Since it is a music video, my partner and I used the song, "Glitter" by Tyler the Creator. However, the song itself does include explicit language, so Celine found a clean version online. I used this version and downloaded it to use in the music video. Once I was able to do this, I began to piece all the clips together. I added in the transitions Celine suggested, as well as ones I thought would go well with the video. The issue arose once I realized the video was over the time limit of 1 minute and 15 seconds. I had to cut down on the video, which was almost at 4 minutes. This meant that a lot of the clips specifically mentioned in the storyboard were not able to be in the video. Although this was upsetting and seemed like a huge setback once it occurred, I realized that it wasn't that big of an issue. I realized that Celine and I were trying to fit w...

Editing Isn't Actually That Bad...

December 9th, 2021 was the group's first day of editing. I was in charge of editing since I was using my own computer to edit. The software program I used for editing was iMovie, which I used in the last project. With having prior knowledge on how to use iMovie, it was easier to edit the clips filmed. While my partner and I were at the beach filming, I made sure to film more clips than necessary. I did this in order to avoid not having enough of a clip filmed for a certain part of the video or if a clip had to be taken out of the video, it could easily be replaced. The process of editing itself was very simple. I had taken most of the clips and had shortened them extensively. I then had to line up the lyrics of the music with the scenes filmed. I also had to create transitions between the clips. This was probably the hardest part of the editing, as I had to create these transitions as smoothly as possible. Originally I was trying to have the clips transition seamlessly, and have mo...
