Intro Blog

Hello, my name is Megumi. I am a high school student, currently taking an AICE Media Studies class. Since this is my first year, I am taking AS level. I decided to take this class because of my interest in film and the production of films. I’ve always been interested in photography, hence my interest in film. As I’ve grown older, I’ve watched more and more movies and TV shows and my love for film has grown even more. I loved everything from interviews with the actors to the behind the scenes to the writers of these films revealing their inspiration. I had always been enamored by the polished, refined, effortless look that a film had at the end of the entire filming and production process. Films full of raw, powerful emotions like Beautiful Boy and Whiplash have always left me wondering: how does this all happen?

As I’ve learned in this class, the filming and production process is one that is both difficult but rewarding. It requires a lot of effort and time, as well as dedication to making your film project a good one. Although the previous projects we have done were small, ranging from a minute long commercial to a two minute music video, my expertise and experience working on these films have been enriching. I’ve learned how to make short videos on iMovie, I’ve learned how to layer audio on clips, I’ve learned to film at a variety of angles. I have learned a multitude of things that I will be carrying onto later stages of my life, regardless of whether or not I pursue a career in the film industry. I’ve also learned that before the filming and editing of a film can start, clear and concise planning must take place first. Planning out conventions and storyboarding is a necessity that will save directors and producers, in this case being students like myself, time and money. Planning out every single detail makes the research, filming and editing so much more enjoyable and bearable. Planning everything out also makes the film so effortlessly fall into place, like the last piece to a puzzle. Film production is a tedious, difficult area of expertise that is genuinely rewarding. Being able to step back and see the work of art you have made is a feeling unrivaled by most.
