Retakes! | Filming Blog

Hello! Today we had to redo a few shots because of a few imperfections. These imperfections being the camera being a bit shaky and the lighting being wrong. After we had reviewed the clips filmed by Sabrina, we realized we also had to refilm a few shots because there were people walking in the background. While we would've liked this, as it would give our commercial some authenticity, it just didn't look right. We instead decided to have Celine walk in the background. I touch on this more in detail later on. However, this was more successful in making Celine look like another student on campus. 

Additionally, there were a few inconsistencies with my movement and the timing of certain things that had to be fixed. For example, the timing of the sandwich being "dropped" onto the table had to be adjusted accordingly. There were quite a few people also filming the previous time we filmed and today. Although we didn't have to use our backup plan, it was still a bit difficult to maneuver the areas in which we filmed. There were a few people listening to music aloud, so that'll be a minor issue when we edit. We've also started to brainstorm how exactly we are going to edit our clips. Additionally, we added in a clip last minute. It is of Celine, our group mate, walking in the background with a Starbucks coffee cup. The specific clip is when I am eating a sandwich from Starbucks. I'm not sure how visible it is for someone who may not know the logo very well, but we thought it was clever. For the most part, today was a successful day. We were able to retake our clips and continue to troubleshoot for any issues we could've had.

Planning Storyboard for my Starbucks commercial

Our storyboard goes as the following: First Scene- During this scene, we will be focusing on the Starbucks cup for the commercial. In the beginning, there will be a fade in, which will then show an individual in our group’s back. After that, it turns into a tracking shot to a side shot of her studying. The location for this scene is on the senior patio. We believed it would be best to use a popular place used for dining because our commercial includes eating and drinking. Soft, subtle, jazz music will be playing in the background as well. Second Scene- In the next scene, the shot zooms into the individual, who is about to take a sip from her drink. And That's a Wrap!

The filming process took my partner, Celine, and me about a day. The majority of the clips were filmed on December 7th, alongside any retakes. The clips that were shot lined up with the storyboard created to ensure that everything that could be filmed was. However, while filming, there were a few complications that could affect the editing stage of the music video. Additionally, the beach is usually very windy, and I am quite sure some of the sounds of the wind were picked up on the shots, which could pose an issue while editing the clips together. However, it should not be a major issue, since the song will be layered over it. My partner Celine and I are full-time students so there isn't as much spare time as the group would've liked. Fortunately, there was an available time period for the group to go to the beach and film, which was taken full advantage of. Starbucks, start your day off with great taste. | Commercial blog

                                                  This commercial was the first effort within my group. I honestly enjoyed collaborating with my groupmates, it was definitely a learning experience. Some things I learned were that I enjoyed filming and being a camera person rather than acting and being the one filmed. Additionally that I must be realistic when storyboarding. My group and I while storyboarding decided to include a few animations to make the commercial seem more polished and professional. A few issues with this is that no one in the group had any previous experience creating animations, no one knew how to create them.
